Lately, I wake him up every time I call him, regardless of the time of day. Now that he’s reached those golden late-teen years, he sucks. He lays in his room, mumbling and moaning while shrinking away from the few rays of gray light that manage to permeate the dingy curtains and dark air encasing his dank lair, rising occasionally only to check the price on used camera equipment on ebay.com or to walk downstairs and hang out in the used van he bought off ebay.com while wearing used cowboy hats. Ahh, the Life of the Injured and Famous.
Luckily for all of us, though, this isn’t the regular routine. Most of his days are spent skateboarding, and doing so in a pleasurable manner. Pleasurable for Jerry as the skater, and pleasurable for all those who bare witness- especially considering the generally poor state of modern skateboarding and all of it’s unfortunate hype, posturing, and imaging. Jerry is the real deal- a skate rat, as opposed to an athlete.
