Erik Hinds evinces numerous interests and involves himself in so many activities that there could easily be three or four musicians in Athens, Georgia working under his name and remaining busily engaged. A multi-instrumentalist, producer, and owner of the small, but prolifically eclectic record company Solponticello, Hinds is an artist capable of playing in a number of styles. Some of his music, like his work with the SS Puft Quartet, leans toward the free jazz spectrum of things, while his recent recording of the Riveter project (with vocalist Julia Powell), is a class-act of a pop album. Still other music on Solponticello explores the realms of new classical and electronic music. Can one be a Jack-of-all-trades? Well, thus far, Hinds seems to have his juggling act down pat.
